If you’re concerned about dropping the wrong thing in the recycle bin or perhaps putting products that should be recycled into the general waste, then talk to us at Barnes Recycling. We’ve been in the waste management business for over twenty years and share a vast experience between us. As specialists in a range of relevant services, such as office clearances, house clearances, garden clearances, commercial waste services, builder’s waste collections, recycling services, wait and load services, and scrap metal collections, we’re the company to contact first for all your domestic and commercial waste collection queries.
The following guidelines will help you get on top of all that recycling and become more focused on your carbon footprint:
Make sure the aerosol cans are completely empty and check the lids are suitable for recycling as well. Note it’s important not to put hazardous aerosols in with your household recycling.
Sometimes our online orders arrive in boxes far too big for the products we’ve ordered. Make sure you break the packaging down, remove the tape and peel off address labels.
Whilst they don’t need to be spotless, it is important to make sure they are empty and reasonably clean. A scrape and a quick rinse are perfectly acceptable for all bottles, jars and cans.
With recycling banks for glass located at nearly every large supermarket throughout the country, as well as at local recycling centres, there’s no excuse not to dispose of it correctly.
Leave the lids or caps on all plastic bottles and household cleaning products. Make sure you squash down the clean and empty containers in advance to save space in your bin.
All you need to do here is keep them dry. You may want to consider donating magazines or specialist newspaper editions rather than throwing them out. And also donate books if you can.
These are not suitable for your standard recycling bin and should be donated to a charity shop, if in good condition, or placed in a designated clothing bin at your local recycling bank.
Photographs are not recyclable so have to be discarded with the general waste. Ink cartridges can usually be returned to the manufacturers or sent to a recycling charity. Plastic shopping bags should not be put into your normal recycling but rather reused as often as possible. Check with your local supermarket to see if they will accept shopping bags along with the rest of their plastic recycling.
